Farmer commits suicide unable to bear moneylender abuse
Coimbatore, February 18 (PTI) A farmer committed suicide on his
closes near here early Thursday as he was apparently upset by
torture and abusive language allegedly used by a
finance company for failing to repay a loan, police said.
In a letter allegedly written by him and retrieved
from his home, Anandan, 30, said employees of
the financial company had used abusive language for the deadline
repay the Rs 45 lakh loan, police said.
Anandan, who had also done plumbing work, said
he couldn’t repay the loan to build a house
because he had become financially weak due to COVID-19
pandemic as agriculture and its work have been affected, they said.
Hold the company and employees accountable for its
extreme step, Anandan had requested the recovery of the house of
the bank and save his family consisting of mother, wife and a
one-year-old, police said.
Based on a complaint from Anandan’s wife, the police recovered
body and sent it for an autopsy, they said, adding that
